Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I was really thinking about lavender, not self blue, which still has a strong black influence in the lacing on featherd birds. When you dilute the black gene to get that lavender color, with no black showing, you will run into problems. Trust me on this one. It covers all species of animals, and birds. As long as the black influence is there, you are safe. Breed it out, and you are opening up a can of worms.

The Downey does smell nice, doesn't it? Did you see more soft loft of cushion too?
I thought that Lavender and self blue were the same? The reason I ask, I am starting a Lavender pen and I am finding it difficult to find alot of information on them. Is that how you get a lavender split? The black is coming through.

Yes!!! I have one hen with quite the booty on her and it looked even better afterwards.

Picaso and his super duper ugly comb. So what would you call this? He's a paint silkie...now I'm nervous with three paints incubating right now

He's obviously going to be petted out, but still interested in what to call that comb.

WOW. I just have no words! LOL Besides it being a very red comb.... I don't know what you'd call it either! He has beautiful color on him-- his splash. I love that lighter color. :)

Peep-- I say GO for it! Or you can ship him down to me and I'll give him a test drive! hehehe! He's gorgeous!!! I mean.... REALLY!!! There is NO back on him and he has an insanely beautiful crest and comb!! I could go on and on about how beautiful he is. You HAVE to show him! This Fall, I hope you are feeling better so you can get out and show him!

Quote: I'd give him a go, chances are he's a carrier but he's so nice and worth taking the chance. Worst that happens is he produces it and has to be removed from breeding.

I now have 20 Catdance eggs on day nine :) Going to be a colorful hatch :) 5 white, 2 blue/splash. 1 black, 4 buff, 2 porcelain, 2 lavender, and 3 paint. If everyone from this point hatches :)
