Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I just wanted to clear up that a splash isn't always white back ground. Light blue back ground with dark spots is splash. I couldn't find where you mentioned it. :)
I think that was me that said that earlier today. I seriously thought that was what is was. No wonder they didn't get DQ then :p My splash Ameraucana is white with blue and black spots.
Yeah I have used just dawn with fabric softener, and I do put dawn in the first wash, but I like shampoo :D and I found one that will get yellowing out of white feathers! Heck it even gets all colors out of white feathers haha! It's all natural, with coconut enzymes, so I didn't think it would be as powerful as it really is.
Oo coconut! What is it? I need it for my poodle who keeps rolling in dead animals :sick If I could find them, I'd figure out how to stop it. She comes in smelling like rotting flesh. It's repulsive. Plus she is always muddy/has sauce from leftovers stuck in her unibrow. Yes. I shaved her a unibrow. That's what happens when you shear your own dog.

Proof.. And just so this stays on the silkie topic..

Honestly, maybe here's my farm girl roots showing up, but I hope they DO become dinner. I'm not so sure I believe anyone that truly wants a "pet" from my culls. This year my culls had all of those split wings. I'm pretty sure most of them went to someone's dinner plate. Which is perfect, because they should NEVER be bred. I would have killed them myself, but I just don't have it in me to kill my fluffies when I'm pretty sure I can't stomach black meat. I sold them for eating prices on CraigsList all summer long. I've had some interesting cultures show up to buy them.

I'm hoping they really aren't going to take them home and breed them, but seeing who showed up, I doubt it. I felt a bit irresponsible selling them and then having someone possibly breed them. So yeah, the best thing for them is to be eaten instead of bred. I have a couple of birds right now that I'm hanging onto because they have such bad wry backs (eggs I had shipped in) and I don't even feel right about listing them for sale... I'm super worried someone may NOT eat them! LOL I've been seriously thinking about culling them the old fashioned way here. I just don't think I could eat black meat. If they were white meat birds, I wouldn't have a problem eating them myself. I've done that enough over the years. So I've been hanging onto them and am debating back and forth on listing them. They are cute, even with wry, which is why I worry someone may go ahead and try to breed them. Sigh. Think of it this way, they are CHICKENS. It's much better to be humanely dressed out and put on a table in celebration of life than to perpetuate a bad genetic problem or even to be neglected or starved, or even be snatched by some roving dog that would just tear them apart ruthlessly.
Good point. I just sold a bunch at an auction this weekend...at least I think I did. Yesterday was Ethan's birthday and since I took him with me we had to leave around 2 when it was his nap time. I tried to skip my birds ahead in line by taking their lot number out of order and placing them up front. HUGE mistake. When my birds got to the front (they were in lot 90) we were on 20, I heard the auctioneer over the mic say, "Whats this? Oh no no...wait...those are in the wrong order. Get those darn birds out of there."

I sat red-faced, pretending to be distracted by my toddler all while the chaos was going on.

So, my detachment occured when they removed the birds and placed them back at the end of the line. Yup, if those darn things didn't sell then I hope someone did them a favor and ate them because there is no way in HECK that I am driving another 3 hours to pick them back up

On a side note I left with 6 roosters to sell and came back with 6 white rock layers. I wonder if they lay creamy brown eggs or white? They are still pretty young, not fully mature yet. And pretty :)

i groom for liveing and show and breed shelties i also have shown many other breeds
I am also a groomer. Shelties are nice dogs, I have a few that I groom. The cuts I love best though are the schnauzers and terriers that have similar cuts. I also have a kerry blue that comes to me, he thinks he's my "boyfriend"

He has a thing for licking my ears and neck while i'm grooming him.

That's why I like the silkies, they take more grooming than others and are very tolerant of it. I also have a persian cat, but I have to shave him because he's gross.

:gig My poodle is special needs. Groomers HATE her, so I learned how to do it myself. She does not trust new people. We often give her whacky haircuts. We like to laugh when we see her.

I am a "special needs" groomer. I take the dogs everyone else rejects, even my boss can't do some that I can. When I open my own shop once I buy a house, I am going to specialize in those "special needs" dogs. I'm not sure what to call it yet though. I don't want to offend anyone haha.

and speaking of funky haircuts, I do a poodle that the owner makes look like Mr. T

Only one groomer could ever do her. However, she often cancelled because her son was special needs. She would massage them before hand and it always calmed Chloe down. She was stuck in a fish tank until she was a year old, so she is very weary of new people.

She is so cute when she has long fur, but the upkeep is ridiculous! Those dogs with snow = really bad.

Special needs would not offend me :) I'd take her there in an instant!
