Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Here's my first pictures of the partridge silkies I hatched. Unfortunately, I don't think they are the cream of the crop. They are all only about 5 months and still have some fluffing out to do. Pictures 1 is of an orange roo, who's primary feathers look ghastly at times. What's up with that? The 2nd picture is another roo who's comb is quite big, although that's not a bad thing. The 3rd picture is of my partridge pullet who is a little on the dull side.

I found these excellent, well written articles for those of us new to showing.

Rosemore: I'm being told to hang in and try to keep the boys until they are about 8 months old before deciding on which ones to keep and which to give up. Your first roo is going to have a nice tight back as he matures.

Hawkeye:I'm sending you a PM.

Were you holding the bird when it threw up? If so, my guess is that you pressed on the crop area while it still had water in there. As for whether there is a problem, keep an eye on the bird, checking every few hours to see how the crop does/does not change, and how much the bird does/does not eat and drink. If the crop stays the way you describe, there could be an issue with sour crop, however, it could just be that you were checking the bird when it had a crop full of water.
Nope, just walked over to see if she needed more food and she just threw up. She seems to be acting fine, eating and drinking, and alert.
