Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Here's the little transformer now. I think the rusty color is a reflection off the table, I don't remember it being there.
I smooshed the feathers down to get the full effect.
But I guess it happened after his molt.

Before...NEPC 2012 He really doesn't look very good here, I was more interested in the coop tag...

And after...
My new Blue Cuckoo!

There are times to talk predominantly type, and times to talk predominantly colour. Knowing the ideal for each is important in breeding a bird that is the best of both.
I couldn't agree more. What troubles me though, is that there seems to be too many breeders who have never read the standard on Silkies, and are breeding Willy-Nilly. All ALLOWABLE colors are very well described in the ABA standard.

So, in cases where there is some detail listed in the APA or ABA standards that don't match up exactly, does one standard take precedence in your opinion? (I'm thinking of the definition of "split wing" as an example.)

I don't know who this is 'aimed' at but I am not 'breeding' silkies as I live in the city and have 17 silkies is all....I just put that 'splash' roo up to ask about him because I thought people were talking about splash...

we all try to learn from each other and by joining in conversations...but sometimes it feels like being beat up or ignored...

What an interesting change..

Both APA and ABA are pretty clear on SPLIT wings. I think you are confusing them with SLIPPED wings, a much more common problem in
Silkies with the primariary feathers on the wing folding OUTSIDE the secondarary feathers. Any time you see an upward curl in the primary wing feathers, don't nit pick, BEWARE.

Please read page 1of this thread. It explains this thread's purpose. No one is trying to pick on anyone, but this thread is for serious breeders who are breeding towards the Standard of Perfection. Do you own one? If not, I would advise getting one from ABA or APA, as it will answer most of your questions.
