I have a 1.5 year old Silkie hen (Yolko) who is no longer able to stand. She is crouching with one leg completely in front of her and when I lift her, the leg is limp. I can touch and squeeze her entire leg and no reaction. It’s almost as if the leg is just completely dead. I noticed she has been sleeping in the nesting box the last 3 nights which is odd for her so possibly it has to do with jumping off the perch? She was free ranging with the others as usual until this morning though.
She has scaly leg mites that I‘ve been treating. Not a crazy serious case or anything but wondering if that could play a role? She is otherwise healthy and I noticed her eating this morning.
Any advice would be great, she’s my baby :(

Sounds like it could be mareks disease... or she could have been injured jumping. Would you be able to take a photo and post it? That could help.

I agree, an injury might be possible but Mareks is a good possibility. Have you checked her for possible egg binding? Insert a finger inside her vent 1- 2inches to feel for a stuck egg. You an try a chicken sling or chair to get her upright to feed her. Here is some reading about Mareks:

I thought egg binding might be possible but I wasn’t sure, I’ll check her vent right now

She is otherwise healthy and I noticed her eating this morning.
Sorry your gal is having trouble. :(

Can you feel any heat or swelling when you feel the leg? Is the toes curled?

Has she ever shown trouble walking in the past?

Marek's does not usually present this late with paralysis, so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion... though it's a consideration.

What is being fed on regular basis, including treats and supplements? When was the last time she laid an egg? How broody has she been in the past?

:fl
