So I have three silkie babies three days old one of them has been acting like it has wry neck I went out and bought the pol-vi-sol because allot of user on here suggest it!! But I made one mistake I got the one with iron!?! Will this hurt the baby?? I'm trying everything I have because I incubated these babies and I'm a teacher and I would hate to explain to the children plus I always wanted silkies and now I don't wanna lose them!?! So again my question is why should I have bought the poly-vi-sol with out iron?? And will it hurt the baby chick if I give it the one with it??? Please help!!! Thank u

you want it WITHOUT iron. why because iron it too hard on there system and it will cause severe constipation . so I'd return the one with iron.

Ok thank u so much for reply! So here's the deal I already gave the baby just a tiny couple drops do u think I did more harm then good? Is there anything else I can do for now I don't think it's eat anything and the only water it's had is the couple drops I give it every couple hours!?!

she should be OK. if you notice her with constipation you can give apple sauce to help her go. I think she should be fine though. I have a real soft spot for silkies. I just love them! I raised four of them. it seems they get prone for some reason to vitamin deficiency. so I give mine supplements on a monthly basis. I give special vitamins I got from first state vet supply. I give a B complex called vita pro B. I give a mixture of replamin and amino acids which is readily absorbed by the body. this is given once a month for three days.so far thank God it seems to help. I pray your baby gets well and everything be alright. good luck

Thank u so much and I appreciate your love for silkies I have 21 hens of different breeds they are all a year old now! But always wanted silkies and since I'm a teacher I purchased an incubator and got silkies fetal eggs from a web site three out of the six hatched so I'm striving to keep these little ones going! I never knew this breed had a victamin difinicincy though thank u for the info Im gonna mark you to fallow and if I have any more questions I hope your willing to help! One more question since it's only going o be four days old now how much food or water do u think I should be giving it?

Realsis has a very good point- we see a LOT of silkies on BYC with neurological problems that get better with vitamins.

Here- click on the crookneck article on the left column (also the silkie skull article):

Best to not give the one with iron- people say on here but I don't know this from personal experience. If you just gave a little bit I wouldn't worry if it were me.

If your little one won't eat or drink on its own because of its head position, I'd continue to offer it water as often as you can (every hour if you remember) and for nutrition I'd personally take the chick starter and some water to make a wet mash. I'd offer a little of it alongside the beak (not put it inside the mouth for it could choke)- same thing with water, just take a syringe or dropper and dribble it alongside the beak- it will drink it.

I'd offer it food and water as much as possible, every hour if possible. Since your little one is a chick, here is additional information in case it is a specific vitamin deficiency called thiamine deficiency (stargazing):
