hi there!

I’ve read about silkie chicks having head bumps, is this what this chick has? He or she is one of three and the biggest in size, and is the only one with the bald spot.

Is this expected?
Thanks so much :).

I’ve never seen this personally, but it would say that she has fluid on his/her head. Unlike many chicken breeds, silkies do not have closed skulls. I believe that this is what allows the fluid to build up and, if severe, can cause complications such as dizziness, etc. I wouldn’t regard this as normal by any means, but I would worry too much as this could be harmless.

Thanks for the replies - the chick is growing fast and bigger than the others so otherwise appears fine, is not dizzy or anything, he or she just has a bald head, looks like feathers has been lost and the skins shows through. He or she was like this since we got him/her 2 weeks ago so hopefully it’s nothing to worry about!

I don’t know what it is but I have one with the same thing, at one point the top of it opened up and looked really infected I put antibiotic ointment on it which healed it right up and it’s still got a bald head.
