Salutations,

I received 8 eBay eggs. Two were fertilized one stopped at day ten in the incubator and now I have one lonely chick.. for now. We have six more (polish) from a reputable seller arriving tomorrow.

My little thing hatched May 1st. Its egg was the biggest of the bunch and I thought I was having twins because it was..yuge.

Its neck is always extended up and out. It does the chicken shuffle dance when he approaches my husband. I have video but I don’t have an “extension” to post it.

We are having a gender reveal party Oct 1st. You’re all invited :)

It’s just for fun. Hoping that the more “research” we do the closer we’ll be to determining gender early on

Its a boy! I should have updated 2 months ago when his streamers came in and he would crow here and there in the morning. Another tip I found early on was the beak method. There was a post regarding the appearance of their beak. How it's shaped from an aerial view. Once I find the photo itll make sense. It was pretty accurate. If memory serves me correctly a V shape was indicative of a girl. A looser curved shape was a boy. He is four months old Sept 1st. His comb is not very prominent. His tail was big ball of fluff. I'll update with photos. My phone got wet and I am in the process of finding a replacement.
We were going to have a gender reveal party next month but he put the kabosh on that.

I am now in the process of trying to figure out a no-crow collar. So far we have two velcro ties approximately 0.5 inches wide. It works okay its hit or miss and we do A LOT of experimenting. He only crows when he's hungry (it seems). When I kept food in his coop we had a cricket infestation. Which is awesome except the crickets are nocturnal and hide during the day. Since moving the food crickets are no longer in the coop but our boy gets Hangry. Once his belly is full he's sweet as pie.

We are thinking about farming crickets. We had a trap set up and it would yield approximately 30 crickets a day. Now that the weather is cooling down its been hit or miss with only a handful. I will start another post regarding my progress.

If youre still here, thanks for listening. I feel pretty comfortable sexing silkies learning from everyone elses experiences.
