After saying goodbye to three beloved s/r chicks that turned out to be roos, I’ve decided I can’t continue to bond with these babies until I know I can keep them. Since silkie chicks are notoriously difficult to sex until they either lay or crow, I’ve sent their feathers off to be DNA tested!
I’ll update with the results but for now here are a few pictures of my silkie babies and a few of them with their Faverolle siblings. Anyone care to make guesses before we find out?

Oh my goodness! They're so adorable! I'm so excited for you. Good luck with guarding your heart while waiting on the results. At least you'll know with time. How long will it take to get the results? Is it expensive?
Thank you so much!
it only cost $22 for me to test them all! I did also pay shipping but that’s only because I didn’t want to wait for their little prepaid kit they send you because I’m impatient haha

I DNA tested six of my Silkies as well. Ended up with three girls and three boys, two of the six were the opposite gender of what I guessed they were! They were about seven weeks old at the time. I think it’s really worth it gives you peace of mind. I was able to quickly rehome two of the boys to a friend who was.looking for new bloodlines for his breeding program. The outfit I used claimed 99% accuracy, mine were anyway. Good luck to you! I’m not going to guess as it would be pure 50-50 shot at this point! They are little cuties!🥰

Wow! How long will it take? Do you mind sharing more information? Thank you
The samples I sent should arrive by Wednesday and then the lab takes 3-4 days to analyze and email me the results. Given I did everything correctly I should know by the 9th or 10th. I went through a company called Accumetrics but there are several companies out there that do it!

Yes once I found out that it was an option I was all in! I love them so much and the unknown is killing me!

What company did you use? The one I used was $12/per test. I had 8 and 3 were female. The one we called loud bird, that I was sure was a male turned out to be female. She was renamed Sophia.
