Silkie chicks DNA testing!

Wow that's a good price, especially to cover all the birds.
I'll guess male for the one in the middle of the first photo.
Light colored, has a band on the left leg, band is some shade of blue/green.

I'll guess female for the other light one, and male for the dark one with the single comb. (A single comb on a silkie seems odd, but that's what it looks like to me.)
everyone including myself has guessed male for the middle one. I’m hoping the little black one is a female be ajar we all love her so much! He/she is also much smaller so I’m hoping that’s a good sign haha

@Trisseh , you said the lab you used takes feather samples, etc. etc. , and egg shell samples. But if it was an egg shell from a certain chicken, wouldn't that certain bird be a female? And how would you take part of a shell from a hatching egg?? Just curious

I don’t. Just Google Accumetrics Viaguard DNA testing

I found this page:

https://www.accu-metrics.com/avian.php
It lists different prices for blood testing, depending on how many samples you send in. (Cheaper per-bird if you're testing more birds.)

For feathers, it says "$22 /SAMPLE REGARDLESS OF QUANTITY"
But that's $22 per bird, not $22 total.
So I assume it's not the page you found.

After the chick hatches, you send in the egg it came from. Enough of the chick's DNA is still on the inside of the egg for them to test.

It would be easier if someone only had one chick hatch, or just a few and watched them all come out. It would not work well at all if you had a bunch of chicks and a bunch of shells in the incubator all together, and no way to sort them out.

I googled it and turns out a single comb on a silkie is a recessive gene and not uncommon but would be desirable for breeding but luckily that’s not why I want my silkies! He/she is just so cute and sweet I hope we can keep her!

I knew someone else that had used them and they paid $22 for their whole batch so I guess I read that as $22 regardless of quantity as in $22 no matter how many but I guess per sample might mean per bird?
I sent in 7 samples so fingers crossed they don’t call me and say I owe the money for 6 more birds LOL
I’ll keep you updated!

30-40 chicks would take a long time! I had 7 birds I plucked and that took about half an hour. They requested several feathers per bird and I washed my hands between each sample and made sure to label and seal each sample as I went so it took some time. 30-40 birds would be quite a chore!
Oh wow... So I should expect 3 hours maybe. It might be worth it though so that I can prepare to rehome roosters. I also don’t know if I can plug from a day old chick.

Do you have a link to that?
I've just been googling, and I can't seem to find the right page.
I found it. And it’s true; $22!

Guys... I can confirm, $22 TOTAL. For feather and egg ONLY. Website words confusing but checkout process confirms.
