I have a 7 month old Silkie that has had matted poop on her behind for the past two weeks that goes from belpw the vent all the way down to her bottom feathers. And up until then I have never seen that before on her. I cleaned it all off a week ago and checked on her again and its back.
I switched their feed from the Purina organic chicken feed to a sprouting mixture i got from a chicken farm. I add some egg shells, sea kelp and herbs to it every morning.
My first question is, would a change in food create diarrhea? My other Silkie is not having this problem.
Second, should i be trimming her back freathers so there is not so much fluff for things to get stuck to?
Thank you of your input!

Is their poop normal not too wet like diarrhea? It could be change in feed, mites, or worms. But what caught my attention is that she is 7 months old. Something I have noticed in my silkie flock is once they start laying and getting attention from my rooster poo starts sticking to their backside. Over the years I’ve racked my brain with diet changes and trimming but what I finally figured out is my young non laying pullets have no problem or my my broody hens when the rooster is not giving them attention they stay clean. I separated my roosters from the hens late last year and all my hens were clean. So I’ve come to the conclusion for my flock it’s something to do with breeding.
I would check for mites and have the vet do a fecal float test just to rule out those causes. You can trim but I haven’t found it to help.

We got rid of pur roosters about a month ago. She has not started laying eggs yet. Do you think she might soon due to this?
Also, would mites be in the feathers on the skin?
Its odd because this has never happened before, so its new.
