Silkie egg hatching day 22 and no sound or external pip

Ok I opened it after no movement and it was clearly not with us anymore.
I really kick myself for not listening to my gut feeling this morning that she needs help.
the chick is perfectly formed, the egg yolk 99% absorbed and only few veins were still surrounding the belly button area or the membrane.
I don’t understand what has gone wrong after internal pip, she looked so perfect.
I'm sorry for your loss. Hopefully your next hatch will go well. Don't get discouraged or kick yourself for not helping, it might have even died while you were sleeping so even if you did help in the morning it would still be gone in chick heaven. If you're wondering what might have caused it not to externally pip, it sounds like the chick was shrink wrapped or it's air cell wasn't big enough. "If the humidity is allowed to decrease after the chick pips the shell, the membranes within the shell can dry-out and stick to the chick. This prevents the chick from turning inside the shell and stops the hatching process. The chick eventually dies. If the membranes around the shell opening appear dried and shrunken, the cause is probably low humidity during hatching. This condition can occur quickly (within 1 or 2 minutes) when the incubator is opened to remove or assist other chicks that are hatching. When hatching begins and proper incubator conditions are attained, the incubator should never be opened until after all chicks are hatched and ready for placement in the brooder."

If it makes you feel better, I try not to help because if a chick can't even hatch by itself its chances of surviving after are slim in my opinion.
It's worse having a chick hatch and die than one die in the shell.
Of course I have seen people help and the chick hatches fine and theoretically survives but you'd be surprised how often people lose a chick and won't mention it, me included.
These things happen to all of us, if you can figure out if your thermometer is calibrated correctly that will help in future in case the temps were off which is the most likely reason for a problematic hatch.

Very sorry about this but if you can get yourself to try again, getting some to hatch will make up for it. If you can figure out whether they were maybe too hot or too cold or it you opened the incubator too much - if you can change what you suspect might have gone wrong. Harder said than done I know but if you pick up an egg that is incubating, it should feel warm but not hot.

Once it is out of the incubator for 10 minutes it should feel colder than our hands and this can give you a rough idea.

I concluded I was running my last eggs too hot after having problems on the hatch, holding the eggs and after making some adjustments my next lot on day 8 is at 100% now whereas on the last one I'd already lost some
