I asked this before, but didn't get the exact answer I was looking for.

What do you get if you cross 2 black silkies?
How about a black and a blue?
I'm guessing 2 buffs make a buff?

Whew, I'll have to be able to actually sit and think to figure that out. I was hoping there was a simple answer

Thanks for the link!

Kaz's site is a great resource, but it helps to know a little about genetics first. But there is a simple answer, or there ought to be, presuming the birds are pure bred

Blacks bred together ought to give offspring which are black
Black & blue bred together ought to give offspring in the ratio of approx 50% black & 50% blue
Buff bred with buff will give all buff offspring.
This applies to any breed not just silkies.

To the best of my knowledge, they are pure. Is there a way to look at them and tell?

How about splash? How do you get splash?

I'm trying to decide which I want to keep and which to get rid of

Thanks!

You can get Splash from breeding Blue to Blue or Blue to Splash.
Blue to Blue will produce approx. 25 % splash and Blue to Splash will produce about 50% Splash. As mentioned above this is true of the Andalusian Blue gene in any type chicken.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for. So I need to keep my blacks and blues and then my buffs.

Too bad I don't have partridge hens

Thanks again everyone!
