Yes, people eat Silkies. Many Asian cultures consider them a delicacy and believe their black skin and bones have medicinal value. For the most part, people can't get past the cute and fluffy factor and bring themselves to eat them. However, I can tell you, they taste like chicken.
Really, when you're rehoming a rooster, its best not to think about it after its done. Once he leaves you, its out of your hands. If you don't want him to be eaten, maybe try charging a little more for him. Most folks wont eat a bird they've had to invest a little $$ in. It might take you a little longer to sell him, but it might be worth it in the long run for your peace of mind.

I'm just on day 9, I've got 6 silkie and 6 polish shipped eggs split between 2 incubaotors. Bought a brinsea mini advance as I'm starting to lose faith in my old incubator. So far so good apart from a few of my eggs (in the older incubator) appear to have air cells in the pointy end!. When going into "lockdown" are they doomed? Or will they just need some help?.

Do you have them upright? Pointy end down? I also use the Brinsea mini but the Eco model because I hand turn. It's a great incubator! With shipped eggs, I keep them in individual cut down cartons and no turning for 5 days or until the air cell is solid in the fat end.

I left them pointy end down for 24 hours after delivery and then set them. Considering they were shipped 10 look really good apart from a few which seem to be the wrong way round. I'll post a pic when I next candle them.

Ok, yes definetly post a pic! I'm really surprised the air cell stayed in the pointy end and didnt travel at least half way up the side of the egg. I've seen pictures of air cells right smack in the middle of the egg. I'm wondering if you should keep those in cartons pointy end up? I'm not sure. I'll look into it and let you know.

I think that that looks like the extra space n the bottom... Sometimes seen in large eggs.... Not the air cell. If you put the flashlight at the other end... What do you see?

That's not the air cell. The yellow tint indicates it's albumen. Move the lamp to the big end and shine there. You will distinctly see the air cell and the line separating the air cell from the albumen and yolk.
