You may also want to check out the "Silkie thread," for advice on his care. If he is still twisting back to look at the sky - he may be exhibiting "Star Gazing," silkie folks should be able to set you right on that also.

Sounds like he has a great home with you - what a shame the other bird drowned. Silkie feathers aren't made for much more than decoration - the bird probably couldn't fly out of the water.

Silkies and children seem to go together but, you know that by now. The big combs and beards do obscure their vision. People think they tend to be slow witted. Trimming back the feathers so they can see makes a big jump in their IQ.

thank you drumstick diva. So many people underestimate the IQ of chickens.
 
I am still waking up. But my mother in law went out and changed his food and water and showed him off to her friend(our mentor in wildlife rehab). She said the only way he looked like an owl would be if the owl had a messed up back, ironed feet, and a weird face. They wanted to name him Weird Owl Yankovich. XD I am hoping the weather will cooperate today so I can take Nugget outside.
 
I do have an odd question. Nugget isn't real friendly or anything. He doesn't approach me or seem at all interested in people at all. I expected this but I was wondering if there was any games or tricks I can do with him to build trust and get him to want to be with me. I was raised having chickens but I haven't had any since I was 13 and I am 26 now. Plus I don't think I did much converting adult chickens. Except for one little black silkie cross that had severe bumble foot due to ground squirrels infesting the chickens with mites. But I don't think she ever truly liked me
 
Chickens that you didn't raise can be a bit distant with you unless you work with them. The best thing you can do is go sit with him. Get on his level on the ground. Bring a bag of treats for him like mealworms, seeds, raisins or bread. Food is a huge motivator and bonding agent. You want to grow his trust in your and by hanging out with him, bringing him goodies, soon he will associate you with pleasant experiences. Go slow with him, try not to pick him up much at first, move slowly around him. And give him time. Spend time just being with him and generally they warm up to you fairly quick. Then when he sees you, he knows positive things are coming his way.

I wish I had more patience XD. My husband is trying to convince me that we are not keeping him. He doesn't realize it isn't up to him. Teehee

Very true. I have had bad experiences with finding animals homes. I am in a foul mood right now. A friend's cat I had a hand in raising ended up living with us when our friends had to move across country suddenly. Unfortunately he caused alot of problems with the other cats and we had to find him a new home. Today that duplex caught fire and the cat died. There has been some real iffy things going on with that family and I am wondering where their little dog and guinea pigs were during the fire.
