My Silkie Hen was very social for the first three days but is now very anti social all of sudden and prefers to stay in the coup. Is this a sign that she’s ready to lay eggs? She still eats and drinks and occasionally goes out the coupe and then goes back in.

Did you just get her? How old is she? Is she the only silkie in the flock and being picked on. She doesn't appear broody to me a broody will sit in the nest box laying with her belly flat against the bedding. Usually when a new pullet is getting ready to lay eggs she is active, clucking around digging in corners going in and out of the nest box tying to find the right place. She kind of looks like she don't feel well in the picture, have you checked her for mites or lice?

I just got her three days ago and I have five silkies in total and she’s actually at the top of the pecking order. I’m not sure if it’s just her personality because she just tends to be active when she feels like it. Not only that it’s pretty hot right now and she’s drinking a lot of water.

She looked like she was squatting to me ... trying to lay? That could be the reason for being antisocial. My broody silkies puff up like a big cotton ball when they’re broody and scream at me .... it’s very rude

Haha ya I think it may also be the heat since it’s pretty hot. I have two roosters but only one is a show quality Silkie, the other is from a hatchery and is mixed with something else. For whatever reason the show Silkie roo is always letting himself get bullied by the hens but never by the other rooster? I was hoping she go broody only because of the other Roos.
