Silkie hen with eye bubbles! Dont know how to treat! HELP!

Hi all!
So when I took her out to give her her meds she didn't have any eye bubbles! After I gave her the drops she got some in her left eye but not the right. I think they are a little irritating cause the cats and kittens always acted like they were. Anyway she's not as congested either, so I'm hoping it's just taking alittle longer for her to kick It..whatever it is. She was always at the bottom of the pecking order, but she hangs with my goose for protection! Lol. I took her outside again today and she was much perkier than yesterday! Got right in with the flock and disnt want to come back in. Tonight should be her last dose of Tylan but do you think I should do another couple days just to be safe? I don't want to have to start all over with her again. I gave her a bath last night, which she mostly enjoyed. I'll attach pics from that and her eyes today. I'm hoping we're on the right track!

I didn't finish my thought about her being at the bottom of the pecking order. Lol. When she got sick they picked on her more and I think her immune system was shot by the time I brought her in.
Well to be safe I'll just do the five days then. If ahe starts to get worse I'll have to try something else, I don't want to mess her up in anyway. I'll let you know how she's doing tomorrow. Thank you!!
Sounds like she is slowly improving and those eye drops are probably helping too.
I see Eggcessive answered your question about the Tylan.

Thank you for the photos, please keep us posted.

Hi all!
Well no good news today. When I took her out both her eyes were bubbly again! Ugh. Her sinuses are more swollen and when she puts her head down to get food she gets congested sounding. I have no idea what to do for her. :idunnoShould I get oxytetracycline to try that? I know I can't get it from tractor supply anymore, but I think I can get it "for pigeons" without a prescription. Her last Tylan was last night. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! I'll post pics soon too. Thank you!

I would take her to a vet to get her tested and possibly given different antibiotics. Does she have a bad odor from her face, (or did she before meds were started?) She might have something else, possibly coryza, or infectious bronchitis. There are different antibiotics for mycoplasma. (MG) and coryza, and other diseases such as ILT and infectious bronchitis, do not respond to antibiotics. If I were going to order an antibiotic online, I would get Baytril (enrofloxacin) from Jedd’s. That one treats most types of bacterial diseases.

Hi again.
Yes I meant to tell you about the odor from her face. I thought she was just stinky and the bath would take care of that, but it didn't. Unfortunately I have no money to take her to the vet. The only vet for birds in my area is at our local emergency vet. I've exhausted all my resources on my 16 yr old cat that I lost a week ago.
If you think Baytril the better choice I can attempt to get that. I did do more research before I wrote to y'all and saw the Coryza, IB, etc. There are so many things chickens can get.
Anyway I'm attaching pics I just took. Sorry for the quality she didn't want to sit still. Lol. I look fwd to your reply and I thank you again! I drew the arrow where she is a bit more swollen today. It's on both sides but you can see it better on the one pic. She has no nasal discharge.

I'm sorry, it sounds like she's having a relapse.
I agree, it would be a good idea to have some testing. Your vet or state lab should be able to help you with that.

Since the Tylan did not make a marked improvement - and it is very good for treating Mycplasma, you may be dealing with something else. The photo you posted of your landlord's birds reminded me of Infectious Coryza, but that would be hard to know too without testing. Not all respiratory diseases respond to antibiotics since some are viruses and some need a different type of medication.

It is hard to know exactly what to do. If it were coryza, that is treated with sulfadimethoxine, a sulfa antibiotic drug. She doesn’t look like she has coryza, but hard to know without testing. Usually, with coryza, they have thick nasal secretions, pus in eyes, a bad odor, and coryza can last for a long time. I haven’t treated it before.

If a vet is not available, I would call tomorrow to check on your local NPIP tester. They can test your birds. Or call your state vet to ask about how to go about it. Here is a link for buying sulfadimethoxine:

Ya I looked at a bunch of different videos to see if I could match up her symptoms with other birds. She really didn't match up to anything. Most also had alot of nasal discharge too, which she luckily doesn't have...knock on wood! I had read about a couple birds that had eye bubbles when it got really cold, which is when I first noticed hers but when it warmed up they went away. Can't blame it on that now. Plus the odor and her congestion.
This answer is prob really obvious but what is the NPIP? If someone can test her that would be awesome!

What state are you in? The NPIP is a national organization that was started to deal with getting rid of salmonella pullorum in poultry. They test owners and breeders for that and upon request can test for some other diseases, including MG. Here is a link with contact infor for each state:

I'm in PA. Thank you for all this info! I will read all this and contact someone tomorrow.

Hi again! :frow
So I called to chicken vets yesterday aftet the NPIP lab said that's what they suggested. One vet was $60 the other $70 just to walk in the door. :he
Anyway a friend referred me to a woman who rescues disabled chickens. She suggested dimatap foe kids and garlic cloves in her water. Being I don't have the money for a vet visit I'm gonna give that a go...better than doing nothing and she's had much success with the dimatap! I'll keep y'all posted. :fl
