I would not give my chicken dimetapp. It is an antihistamine and decongestant for humans. Not every drug used in humans is good for chickens. If you are treating a virus, it may take weeks for her to get better.

If you think it's a bad idea then I won't. I'll try the garlic in her water and wait and see.I would not give my chicken dimetapp. It is an antihistamine and decongestant for humans. I'm sorry your having no luck. Vets can be expensive for sure.Hi again!
So I called to chicken vets yesterday aftet the NPIP lab said that's what they suggested. One vet was $60 the other $70 just to walk in the door.
Anyway a friend referred me to a woman who rescues disabled chickens. She suggested dimatap foe kids and garlic cloves in her water. Being I don't have the money for a vet visit I'm gonna give that a go...better than doing nothing and she's had much success with the dimatap! I'll keep y'all posted.![]()
I'm glad I wrote to y'all before I got it for her. Last night she had no eye bubbles at all! Today they were back but not as bad. I've been giving her ACV in her water at night and giving her a couple drops of VET RX in her beak for the last 3 days...also some under her wings every night too. Today she actually took.a dust bath with her family! Woohoo! I'll keep you posted! Thanks again!!!I'm sorry your having no luck. Vets can be expensive for sure.
I do agree with @Eggcessive not every medication used for humans should be given to chickens.
Hopefully she will start getting better soon. If it's a virus like IB it can take several weeks to see improvement.
Sounds like she is slowly improving! I'm glad she was able to get outside for a while today, that should lift her spirits.I'm glad I wrote to y'all before I got it for her. I've been taking her out everyday so she can stretch her wings and forage. Plus I don't want the flock to forget her...She gets picked on enough. The last couple days she didn't really mingle but today she did alot. When she starts to get tired ahe puffs up and sits away from everyone. That's when I put her in her crate and bring her in. Fingers crossed she keeps going the right direction.Sounds like she is slowly improving! I'm glad she was able to get outside for a while today, that should lift her spirits.
I'm gonna bring my scale out and weigh her tomorrow. I know she's not a pound, maybe a half a pound. As soon as I can get her owner to help me I'll push on that lump to get the puss out. Wonder if I should use a syringe first and see if puss actually comes out? I have a 22 gauge needle I could use. I don't want to push on it if it happens to be a mass instead.Dosage is 0.25 mg per pound. Is she half a pound? I would get the pus out soon. The longer it stays in there, the more chances the eye will be damaged.
