Silkie Holiday Hatch-a-long

@KV Silkies I'm hoping it will be okay! My ducks I hatched in December all had saddle shaped air cells and they hatched fine. Just keep the humidity up

I sure hope so TwinArrows, not much I can do but pray for the little thing, we put it in our nightly prayers at home (me and the kids). lol

I also finally found so clear pics of early quitters too and think a lot of mine were early quitters, am trying to figure out why as my temp/humid were ok. I am a shakey person, wondering if it could have bee from that? I saw one article said that vibrations/shaking can cause early quitters... thinking of having my DH handle my next shipment instead of me.... have you heard of any other early quitter reasons? like I said temp and RH were great and stable through out, love my brinsea. just trying to get a hold on things for my next batch... i'm sick I had so many early quitters.

I really don't think shaky hands could be why your loosing the eggs. Sometimes if they have a rough shipment they will start to develop but quite early. That's what I have heard anyway. I had a lot of early quitters with the silkies and they had an extremely rough shipment.

Hi,
I agree that it is very unlikely your hands shaking are the problem.
There are a ton of reasons why the eggs quit early........as well as shipping and goofs with incubator...............
if the parents are not healthy or do not have proper nutrition the eggs will not be healthy.............
I am sorry things did not work out well for you. You have the best incubator so I think you just need good eggs.

@KV Silkies I agree with the above. Shaky hands aren't going to hurt them. Now shaky post office handlers might. :). I think you just need a good batch of eggs also. I know you have eggs coming next week if those don't work for some reason is there any one with a flock you could maybe get a dozen from and try. That way thered be no shipping involved. I so hope your little one hatches. Fingers crossed.

@TwinArrowsFarm I love tinkerbell. That fits her. When you dress her in tutu and such you ll have to post pics. I had a wilbur also. He was a black and white pb. He went to live with a friends pb, stinkerbell. Totally unprepared when I got him in the winter. He lived in my house for a month before I gave him to her. Loved his blankey. One day I'll have another one. Outside this time.

Just an informational. We have someone helping us to set up a working website, but it's for a different business. We're bringing it from wholesale to retail. One of our distributors mentioned to me WIX for website. If you don't have to SELL through the website then it's good to go through WIX. You can make your own site from a premade one and add your own pictures into it. They have many examples to begin with. Problem arises if you want to make sales through the website, then it requires a secure area, forget what it's called, that has to be paid for. One business of ours uses GoDaddy and another uses One and One. The GoDaddy business is the one we plan to activate first. The One and One could be used later on for the farm. They are both paid. For other business items we sell, we do sales through Ebay, but they have higher percentage rates. Just wanted to share our web development experience. It's a LOT of work. My guy is a computer techy dude and my business partner has family in the computer industry and even with all their help it's still a lot of work. BUT, if you're going to just advertise prices, and have people call to order, you can get the square and take phone orders, for parties, etc. WIX is free and good for a website without sales capacity. WIX probably offers a secure sales site for a fee. If we do brick and mortar, like farm store, or farmer markets, we'll probably get the square. Hope this helps!

@jorey I like it too! I'll have to wait until I meet her to make a final name decision. I'm hoping I'll be able to go this weekend.:)
@why do birds Thank you! I actually have already purchased my domain name and have been on WIX a couple times to make my webpage. I'm purchasing a computer soon so I will be able to actually get it done.
@KV Silkies I personally would hatch in the egg carton but only if it has been in the carton the whole incubation. I'm really just going off of what other people have said and not personal experience. If you have had them laying flat it might be better just to let it hatch that way. My duck eggs had saddle air cells and they were flat the whole time and did fine! :)

My Brinsea has little bars that you insert to hold eggs in their rows, so it isn't in a carton now, but I have one ready I can put in there. egg has been upright, for the most part... but definitely not laying down, so guess I will just put in a carton? don't really wanna leave in the bars as don't want it to get stuck by them or in them...

Ya I would try the carton then. I'm not very experienced but I'm sure most people would agree with that. :)
