Silkie Holiday Hatch-a-long

my daughter is the one who got me into chickens. i honestly hated them from my childhood. they raised some beoilers in her zoology class and we had to take care of them on the weekend and next thing i know i have around 20 chicks in my bedroom. now i cant imagine not having them in my life and shes telling me i dont need anymore. lol. she goes to college in the fall so that opens her bedroom up for a incubating/brooder room. mwahahaha

that will be perfect, your own brooder/incubator room and she will have roommates when she comes home to visit! lol

It's a great idea. When my oldest went of to college his room got filled up with stuff. At least filling it up with chickens seems so much more worthwhile! hahahaha! And fun!

kv when do you lock down and when do your new eggs come next week?
I lock down on saturday,

@KV Silkies i so hope you get to see it. @why do birds she didnt think that was to good of an idea. lol. told her i'll have empty nest syndrome and i'll need to fill it.

Hahaha I would love a room for incubating and brooding! I would also love to have a sewing room and craft room. We have been thinking about turning our single car garage into a room and that's exactly what I would do with it! Half for my sewing and half for my incubating! I really want a cute coop soon! Our last one was really plain and we sold it so we could build a mini barn and pens for my new business venture! We are starting a mobile petting zoo! Which is why my username is "Twin Arrows Farm". We have twin girls so we wanted to incorporate that into our farm name. The arrows is because the song "Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves inspired me to just go for it. Everyone I know including my own family thinks I'm wasting my time and money but I have faith this will work. It's to the point where I can even express my excitement about it because I just get blank empty stares and "oh.... that's cool". Lol
I'm very passionate about this little venture and I felt like I could share that with my BYC friends.
Love all of you awesome people!

you should advertise with local daycares or at local schools perhaps? I bet you'd get people for sure loving this for their kids bday parties and such! or do a free run at some local schools to get the name out there? Just tossing stuff out there....

ok, quick question, do I get my new batch of eggs sent on monday 02/03 or tuesday 02/04.... my hatch date is 02/04. have ONE egg hatching... (hopefully) eggs getting shipped are coming from FL to WI. Gal I"m buying from said is pretty much always a 2-3 day turn time, so if ship monday should get them on wednesday, if ship tuesday SHOULD come thursday.
I am horrible at over thinking this... am afraid my little egg might take longer and then what? I'm stuck with my eggs sitting, then worry that the shipping will somehow get delayed if I ship out tuesday and they will get stuck in transit somewhere... yeah, i'm nuts.

just really wanna start this next batch off right!

Oh parents do torture their children! Love it!

Twin Arrows, very cool on the idea of the petting zoo. Good outside the box thinking!

We were looking for land and ended up with a small farm. We have to build a house and are repairing a big barn and other buildings. We are totally new to farming. I put together 3 business plans but the numbers never came out correct. In the building plans we put a large kitchen that should be acceptable for catering. The plan is to prepare food and sell at the farmers markets, and possibly have a farm stand. So instead of having many animals, we'll have what we need to prepare nice food dishes and, if allowed, offer catering services. We love the chickens, so far so good! Can't wait for the fresh eggs, please be hens.
