Silkie is yawning non stop, help!

PCR test results came back positive in both birds. She said she will send me the final reports soon. The others are acting normal except the lice/mites which I will continue to treat for. The woman I got my un vaxed Brahmas from has had no sick or dying birds so I really think it had to have come from the vaxxed pullets I got from a farm. So sad
Thanks.

Hi All, a few things...

I have the final report from Cornell - attaching it for everyone to read. Not sure there is anything you didn’t already know but there is much of it I don’t fully comprehend.

I also have one bird that was vaccinated but is showing signs of mareks...anyone have any suggestions for the most human method to cull her if she isn’t better soon

YouTube the "broomstick method."

Does the attached report include the strain of Mareks? Im trying to figure out if the vaccine made by Zoetis will protect any new pullets from what my flock has. Thank you!!
I'll go back and look but I don't remember seeing a particular strain.
The vaccines only work if given at hatch and only if the chick isn't exposed to the Marek's disease for a few weeks after they receive the shot.
The vaccines don't really prevent the disease either.

I found a crow that seemed to have just dropped dead on our property...will all the birds that come near my chickens catch mareks and die???
I have no idea if crows can get Marek's or not.
I do know that wild birds carry many diseases that chickens can catch.
If I were you I would not feed wild birds if you are doing so and try to keep them out of your coop and run.

I don't see that your report specifies a strain of Marek's.
I see that the "final" part of your report did call the bugs feather mites and not lice though.

Have you been able to get rid of the bugs yet?
From my understanding feather mites are hard to get rid of.

I can’t see any bugs on my birds but I did notice small brown bugs in the coop on the wall...I need to do some research on feather mites and maybe do another round of permethrin.
