So, I know that everyone says that Silkie's are difficult to sex, but I am noticing a huge comb that has developed in the last few days on my almost five week old. It is purplish grey, like the skin, but looks like part is turning darker purple. My other silkie is the same age and does not have this and added pics for comparison. Does this seem like it could be a cockerel. These are my first silkie's so are very unfamiliar with how quick they mature. The smutty buff is the one in question. Thanks!!

Both of those chicks appear to be non-bearded. Which means, even if they are pullets, they'll have pretty substantial combs and wattles (bearding suppresses combs and wattles, which is why they are tiny on bearded birds).

I feel like I've been posting this same response a lot lately... :)

Thanks for the replies. I am really hoping I have a cockerel. I have heard that silkie cockerel's are generally more docile than a lot of LBF. I recently had to rehome my beautiful SLW rooster because he treaded all of my hens feathers off and I miss my wake up call.
