Ivermectin given to birds by injection, orally or topically won't treat feather lice, but given orally to horses it will treat biting lice. Not sure how effective it is against mites, 'cause I haven't used it for that. For mites and lice I use a poultry dust with permethrin.

There is a topical that I know works, but it an expensive and you have to get it from a vet - Vectra 3D

Ivermectin paste or pour on won't work for lice or internal parasites. But it does work well for mites. I use the pour on for cattle Ivermectin, however I have used the paste as well. So if you are dealing with mites, use either of these. I prefer the Ivermectin Pour on for Cattle. Drops behind the neck on the skin. This gets right into the blood stream fast and makes the skin toxic.

Lice are killed by dusting the bird with some sort of poultry dust or permethrin spray.

Internal worms will need something like Safeguard Liquid Goat Wormer or even the Safeguard Equine paste will work well enough. I use the liquid goat wormer for internal worms.

I do have a permethrin powder I will dust everybody down with today. It took some begging and pleading, but I did convince hubby to let me keep her in the house until she gets better. She seems happier in here.

I suppose since the co-op is my new favorite store ( ive been there the past 4 days, lol ) I will go get the pour on as well. I will wait for a few weeks to treat her again, but I will treat the rest of the flock with the pour on!

I gave her a pea sized dollop on a piece of bread. She is eating and drinking. Just really lethargic?

You may need to order the "pour on". I couldn't find any locally, although I am out in the middle of nowhere. LOL

I agree with Kathy. Keep her warm. Sick birds are always cold and they don't heal well when they are cold. If you have a heat lamp you can put on her or bring her inside somewhere warmer, I am sure she will appreciate it. Sick and cold birds burn too many calories.

Update: Our little girl passed away last night warm in her hospital cage. I have to admit I had a good cry with my 7 year old daughter. This is the first chicken we have ever lost so we took it pretty hard i'm happy snowy is no longer in any pain. We gave her the best little life that we could.

I am now concerned about the rest of my flock. I am not sure what it was that took snowy, I just hope it does'nt take the rest of my flock too :/
