Hey there! I have a silkie roo that throughout the day his head twitches side to side almost looks like he has ticks:rolleyes:

He has been doing that ever since he was a cockeral he is six months now. He twitches his head for a couple seconds then stops. He'll do that a couple times a day but otherwise a healthy looking guy.

My guess is that he maybe has some kind of vitamin deficiency since I've read that silkies are more prone to that. What can I give him food wise that'll help with that?

Its likely wry neck, silkies are prone to it.
Give 400 i.u vitamin E and about 1/3 a human B complex tablet every day for a few weeks.
But wry neck is when there whole neck is like turned into a certain way isn't it? He doesn't have that he just twitches his head a little bit side to side. Then he's normal again

Should I be worried about it if he's had that ever since her was little? I don't see him doing it all the time just mabey a couple times a day

I'm thinking it might be some sort of genetic thing but my next question would be if it's ok to still breed him? I'll still start giving him the vitamins and see how that goes though.

Not always. Very advanced wry neck does that but this is the begining stages.

I had a Bovan Brown doing the same thing. I thought it might be an impacted or sour crop. We gave her 2 tsps of solid coconut oil and the next day she was as good as new. Worth a try.

There is normal twitching and there's shaking, and there's torticolis. All are varying degrees of head twitching which is what chickens all do from time to time.

A video of this head action would be helpful for us to decide if it's normal or pathological.

Torticolis or wry neck has a broad spectrum of presentations. There's the classic "star gazing". Sometimes the chicken seems normal until they approach their food and their head turns upside down as if they are trying to eat with the top of their head. Sometimes it's poor balance, and sometimes they walk in circles or backwards. Vitamin E in hefty doses is the treatment.
