Silkie Roos Question

I kinda doubt if your two Silkie hens will be picking on him...probably the other way around.

If it's just the three of them, no other chickens with them, they should be just fine. The roo will be quite proud that he has some ladies, and the girls will adjust to having him around, and he will watch over them and protect them if he is doing a good job.

Ummm, I wouldn't count on them not picking on him. I have a silkie hen or two who will pick on just about any roo they encounter, especially a young one. BTW, I have never had a mean silkie roo. I have heard of them, but have never encountered one myself.

It may be at least partially that I do not expect them to be mean. I have a friend who is terrified of one of her roos. I walked into the coop, reached down and picked him up with absolutely no problem as she stood watching in amazement. I handled him and looked him over and put him down and not once did he act at all aggressive. I cannot recall whether I handled any of his hens, though.

I have a rooster who dashes over to protect his hens if I pick one up and she squawks. Then looks up at me and seems to say, "OH! It's just you--carry on," and walks away.

I had very nice silkie roos. Then I bought some from one person. The one was excellent quality but it tried to spur me in the face after it repeatedly hurt my kids. I had my husband cull it. No way was I going to breed that into other birds. The other roo was mean but not as bad. Both of those birds came from different breeders but were raised by one person.

I have new roos now. One I hatched and raised as a chick. He is sweet. The other roo I bought and he was not in real good shape. BUT she told me he was the sweetest roo..and he is. I adore him. I tuck him under my arm and carry him around. He could care less.

I think it is like nature vs nurture. It's a combination of genetics and how they are treated.

My silkie roos all have different crows. They are not by any means quiet. The neighbors have a rock band and party till all hours of the night. I have silkie roosters. I think we have an "understanding". LOL
