Does anyone know if a silkie rooster will protect against cats? Or is everything affraid of cats? Sick of some neighbors cats in my backyard.

My silkies are cautious of the cat, but I wouldn't say they are afraid of her. And I honestly don't think they would attack a cat either. I guess they can sense that she means no harm. No harm, no fowl!!!

Sorry couldn't resist!

My rosters ignore the cats but one of my hens hunts them with a vengeance. It's funny as hell to see her go after one. I've yet to see any cat no matter if it's a huge feral tom or my own lazy fluff wad stand up to her.

I have a large Siamese that guards my outdoor caged birds from other cats nicely. Before Machiatto came along, my polydactyl Burmese gave her life defending my doves from stray dogs. Clarisse is buried with honors in my butterfly garden.
Guard cats are awesome.

The cat might be looking for mice... which are often attracted to chicken litter! We had a stray cat that would not stay away and it turned out he was hunting a mouse, not our chickens. (I have since adopted him and named him Kitty Kong.)

But what will work is if you get a squirt gun or water hose and squirt it at the cat every time you see him in your yard. After a while it will stop coming around and it will not hurt the cat. I would also ask your neighbor to try to keep better track of his cat.

the day that chickens ever got ahold of them and usually cats leave them alone. When the wild cats or neighbor cats are here they keep away the skunks and other things. They don't bother the chickens since they're grown now, and I like the free cat patrols they provide. My kitty is strictly indoor only but he watches the action from a window.
