Hello friends. I have 2 silkie roosters in a mixed flock of hens, no silkie hens. Will my roosters be able to mate with them? They are almost a year old I think and my girls are almost 2 years old. The boys have exhibited some mating behavior, running around the girls, chasing them with their feathers all fluffed, etc.. But they haven’t attempted to “mount” (? Correct terminology? Lol) anyone yet. They tend to chase my only bantam around the most, which makes sense. I have a Wyandotte, barred rocks, cinnamon queen, salmon faverolle, appenzellers, and ameracaunas. The girls aren’t fans of the boys and tend to peck at them. Will this change ever? Would the girls ever let the boys mate with them? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As long as your girls are decent size too. I had two silkie roosters mount my girl and break her neck. This mating stuff is wild. I wasn't prepared for it..crikey.
Good luck

op hasn't been back. :[
How did you verify the broken neck? They tried to mate her at the same time? How many roos to hens?

At the same time. Like two lunatics. I was shocked. When we picked her up her neck was limp and her body would wiggle. Same if we placed her on floor, then it stopped and she was gone. Had 10 hens, other breeds around. Seemed like a race for covering. Like she's mine. But yes. Heartsore I lost her. She was my baby.

Oh my girls are bigger than the roosters, except my bantam but she’s not much smaller than them. That’s so sad about your little girl, I’m getting silkie hens this year so I’ll be sure to watch them
