I had a silkie hen with two one-week old chicks in a cage (to keep the other chickens away from chicks) with water and medicated started. Yesterday morning, the mama had her head stuck under the front of her body acting bothered. Later in the day, I checked on her, and her head was under the front of her (I thought maybe she had mites or something really troubling her). I do have mites which I am getting ready to work on later this week when the weather warms up, but I didn't see any on her. Last night, I separated her from the chicks. She survived the night, but this morning still has head under the front of her. I have no idea what the problem is. She has been eating the medicated starter with the chicks for a week, but I wouldn't think that should cause any problems--does anyone out there know? I feel sorry for the gal and don't know what else to do for her.
