My silkie is setting, But she is setting on egg is the main laying box. What should I do about this? Are the other chickens going to bother her and try to lay in that nesting box? I only have 5 hens total.

I have read that if you allow a broody to set on eggs, she should be set up by herself.

Many people use a dog kennel with food and water cups, and the nest, of course.

If this isn't done, she can get confused and go back to the wrong nest. The other thing that my need to be considered is the safety of the chicks that will hatch....I'm not sure at what age they should be introduced to the rest of the flock.

Good luck!

I'm off to find out myself how to integrate the hen w/the new chicks into the flock. I'm thinking of letting one of my broodies raise a clutch and save me some work!

I only have 2 nest boxes and so no matter what everyone picks the one that the broody is in. They are never confused and the one that is sitting now just waits quietly next to the box and waits for the other hen to lay and then gets back on. She hatched a chick this way during the coldest days we had during December this last year. The other eggs were not fertile.
