Silkie sex???

Hey guys. Thanks in advance for the help. Just seeing what you think here, boy or girl? I know silkies take a while but this is about 8-9 weeks old, I have 2 other silkies but this one is by far the biggest

I’m praying for a hen. I had 14 chicks from a day old (4 different breeds) and 10 so far have been cockerels feeling defeated haha!

I'm leaning cockerel, though when it comes to silkies I am still learning. LadiesAndJane is generally very good with them.

My favorite game this year! I have found that where you get your birds makes a HUGE difference. Hatchery birds seem a bit easier to sex earlier on, you still have to wait until closer to 12-14 weeks on most to see streamers coming in, but some will start coming in sooner. Stock from breeders are almost impossible, I swear lol. I have one I was absolutely convinced was a cockerel based on it's wide U shaped comb and fearless temperament. It's now almost 7 months old and no crowing, everyone I've asked thinks it's a pullet.

All that said, the crest on your bird looks really round from the side right now watch it for a tuft of swept back thicker feathers over the next few weeks, from the front it looks like several of the cockerels I have had this year, kind of a V shape. If you have some extra money you could get DNA testing done, it's about $15 per bird. If I don't get a crow or egg out of this gang soon I'll be springing for testing. White bird in front I swore was a male from the beginning.

Sorry I am in agreement, this little one is looking more male. I see wattles forming which you wouldn’t see in a pullet at this age. The comb is slightly raised but I’ve seen pullets look like this as well.
It’s the wattles that are having me lean cockerel. I would though hang onto this one a few more weeks and look for more development signs to be certain.

Unfortunately I'm leaning towards cockerel too with comb and wattles - although some can trick you and 9 weeks is only young.
Here's mine, about 7 wks old. One on left is cockerel I think, little white one I think pullet.

Agree, hang onto this one a little longer. You can see what looks to be a teeny wattle peeping out. Leaning boy for now.

Just an update on my original post guys, and helps anyone who is looking themselves.

Luckily I kept her to see because not only is she a girl, she’s my number one layer in my flock haha! Out of an Australorp, Plymouth Rock, Orpington and Wyandotte she’s the only one laying everyday!!

Goes to show the sexing myths are not rock solid!
