Hello-
Can anyone let me know if they think any of my three silkies are cockerels? They are all approx. 8 weeks old. (Is it too soon to tell?) I purchased them from a breeder who said they were all pullets, but #1 is doing something that sounds suspiciously like an attempt at crowing and is also the tog dog who pushes around all my Barred Rock pullets which are much bigger than her. I’ve also read something about how Silkie cockerels have as more upright stance vs pullets, which again, #1 seems to have (in my very limited experience). Lastly, do some silkies just mature faster than others? #3–the only one that I’m pretty certain is a pullet—is significantly fluffier than the other two. What gives? Thanks in advance and sorry about all the pics!

Number 3 looks the most like a girl to me with her very rounded cotton-ball head...
Numbers one and two... (slow shrugs)... hard call either way.
8 weeks really is too soon. They are really cute! 🤗

Normally at this age you look at their behavior, stance, possible development of streamers. These can indicate a male but females could also have streamers. I just had my silkies gender identified at IQ bird testing. They claim 99.9% accuracy. It is about $13 a bird and you have to pluck feathers from them but it was nice to know that one that I thought was a male was actually a female! My birds are about the same age at nine weeks.😊
