Silkie sexing help !

I'm kinda leaning towards pullet on this one. It's obviously a mix as I see no feathered feet and at 5 months it could be reaching POL, which would explain hanging out in the nest box. No streamers or male feathering that I see....I'm leaning pullet but silkie mixes can be hard!

I would say 100% positive hen. Her wattles are much too rounded, along with her body. Silkies are actually rather easy to sex once they reach this age, because roosters will have the thin 'silkie' hackles they are known for. Sickles would be more pronounced by now, and there would be streamers, or long, dangly pin feathers shooting out from her head. Rather than a mutt, I would say this is a hatchery quality hen. Silkie mutts do not have silkie feathering such as she. Hatchery quality birds often have no feet feathers and the wrong comb. Be proud, this is a gorgeous example for a silkie hen. Everyone says cockerel because of her comb and wattles, but not everything is based on comb, I have a maran with a 3 in by 2 in comb...or at least close. And it is a hen.

Use my pure rooster, Max, as an example. He is about 3 and a half. See those stringy feathers on his head? Only male silkies get them, and they appear around 3 months maybe? Also, see how his hackles are slightly more yellow? They are stringy. And see how big and red his comb is? Also, look at his body compared to yours. Every part of him leads to your hen as 100% girl. I also just noticed that his saddle feathers are able to be seen. I can get a picture of a mutt... for feather example. But he or she is very young.

As i stated in above post .. It was bought at tractor supply back in april .. so could deft. be a mix .. I really would love to name s/he but i would hate to change the name ! I can take more pictures if needed .. I do know that sadly the reason i picked it out was because of a foot defect :( i felt totally sorry that chick .. and its left me guessing all these months ! And your Rooster is just beautiful !

thanks! We originally bought them for breeding and show, but now they are our broody moms for raising babies. But currently we have an ameraucana on 4 eggs... 3 lavendars and 1 easter egger. And we have a polish mommy that surprised us by hatching 2 adorable little chicks. We also have another pair of white polish chicks in the house, a pair of white crested blacks in the house, a pair of white crested blacks outside, and a silkie mutt.... that equals 9 chicks of diff ages? Also, hatchery quality means like TSC because they are just silkies bred in a hatchery to be sold.

lol, now I have to get a picture of Max 's accidental little child. He decided an ameraucana was his wife lol.

Herw is Max's baby. Can anyone tell if boy/girl if I provide more pics? I thought it was a boy, but saddles and hackles are super round and tail is hen like. But the comb is rather big for a hen, but very dark, no red at all, no spurs.
