I am pretty sure the younger one (less fluff on head) is a cockerel. He has the typical spike comb appearance. He’s about two-three weeks younger than my other silkie and has already surpassed the others weight. My other silkie I believe to be a pullet... any ideas? I read it’s pretty impossible to sex silkies early on. A419B856-1DB2-470D-B45B-05A3F94E2246.jpeg Thanks so much!!

Thing is... spike comb is NOT typical for Silkies and that is an incorrect comb type.

I do believe the non bearded one is a cockerel.

I didn’t think they had a spike comb. All the pics I saw referencing a cockerel silkie has the rose type comb... but right now it looks spikey to me...

I took the close up of the young one today—-probably a cockerel. He’s about 6 weeks old. The bearded one is about 10 weeks old. I don’t really see anything on her comb area. Pretty smooth not really bulbous.

It's a straight comb. Silkies should have a walnut comb. I have seen straight pop up from someone else's stock. But I won't keep a Silkie with a straight comb in my flock. We eat the boys and re home the gals. (only because I breed)

The bearded one appears female, for the stated age... and if it were in MY line. Some lines develop slower. I reserve judgement on the straight comb and age since it isn't typical.

can't believe how hard it is to find a pic of a goo quality Silkie comb. Don't get me wrong I'm not putting your bird down. It still a perfectly good chicken. :)
