silkie sexing

It all depends on your rooster. My silkies were 2:2 for 6 months and we had no problems. Actually, the only problem we have had was an ameraucana breeding a maran because all the other ameraucanas were broody. Silkies are quite docile and gentle when breeding, so you shouldnt have a problem.

I am not sure if I am in the right place for this question, but I have two silkies. One pullet and one roo. Talking with someone in the feed store yesterday, he mentioned tha I need at least 3-4 more girls or else the roo will take a toll on my one girl. Is this the case or will they be fine just the two of them?

Based on the head alone, ypu can see a bunch of stray pin feathets popping out, this is a mighty scream in the silkie world towards a cockerel. The comb area is also a little big, but not very compared to other young cockerels. Silkies take a long time to grow up, so even after 1 year, you may surprised by a crow. Dont be discouraged if it is a she with a large comb, I have 2 of those. I would say cockerel for now though, sorry.

Hello silkie lovers!
I recently got four chicks in a brooder, and unfortunately, three died suddenly, leaving me with a lovely white silkie.
Sooooo... I'm very keen to know if he/she is a boy or girl, and I was really hoping someone could help me!

The chick in question is around 8 weeks old, is very timid but is friendly if you are quiet around him/her. Would love a pullet, as can't keep roosters! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I feel almost like three of my silkies are being mistreated compared to the rest of the flock. I don't know 100% if the are male/female, so I haven't given them a proper name. I had one that developed a comb early and was crowing by week 11. He's larger and acts completely different that the other three. There isn't anything about my 3 that makes me think rooster, but I just don't want to jinx anything. They are now over 22 weeks, so hopefully my wait won't be too much longer.

Can anyone help with these guys, about 3 months old now! I've tried sexing myself so wondering how I went :) thanks :)

Pic 1,2,3 Roo?

Pic 4,5 White hen?

Pic 6 ,7! not sure on this one

Pic 8, sorry about the horrible pic, makes it look like it could go either way!

I would say 1 is definitely a roo with that copper leakage on his wings and breast. 2 looks to be a pullet. Do you have a picture showing wings and shape of number 3?

Sorry I don't, I'll have to take another pic, I'm leaning towards Roo. Will post another pic later when I can.

Thanks guys.
