silkie sexing

I don't think the red in the comb heralds a boy.  Silkies should have black combs, it  just means his color isn't to standard.  From what I know of silkie sexing, even show breeders cannot accurately sex them before 4-5 mos. of age, and some not till they crow or lay.

Thanks! I thought their combs were mulberry? Like a purple color? I got these chicks from my local feed store and they are my first so I don't really know and that's even after I've done as much research as I can. I don't know if their combs start as red and get darker or start as the darker color.

Editing to say: the space where the comb grows on this chick was never black. Like my other chicks...but I have two others that ARE growing what seem to be combs that look black and two that don't have any growth there at all.

I just got 3 silkie chicks! They all appear to be white. 2 of them are 3 weeks old and the other is 2 weeks old. They have all ready formed their little pecking order and the leader seems to be the biggest. It has the highest posture of them all and you can't touch the others without the big one coming over and pecking at you. What are the chances it being a roo?

Im now silkieless
My roo got killed by a sickness and my hen got taken by a hawk :'(
I intended to breed them too

Maybe ill pick some chicks from the feedstore

Any guesses on my 10 week old silkie?

Any guesses on these 3 silkie chicks? They are nearly a week old. Two have the more rounded heads and one has the mohawk-ish head. Thanks!
