silkie sexing

Oh ya I won't get rid of any until I'm absolutely sure. About a month ago I had a Barred rock who I had really thought was a roo even though a lot of people said it was a hen. He crowed at 12 weeks and I had to sell him but I tried to be in denial right up until he crowed because I didn't want to get rid of any of mine. Even though I really think this white one is a roo I really hope I'm wrong because I started out with 3 while silkie chicks in my bunch of 18 chicks and I loved them the most. The other 2 died so I'm just hoping I'm wrong.
Yeah, don't get rid of any until you are 100% sure they are a boy. When I got my first silkie chick I posted a picture of him on here at about 5 weeks old, and many people guessed pullet. Now I have a sweet silkie rooster instead!

Here is my trio at 5 weeks. I'm in the same boat where I'm just trying to get a clue on who might be a boy as I have to start making plans to re-home those.

Silkie 1 (who I think is a boy)

Silkie 2 (no clue)....

Silkie 3 (also no clue)...

I think I have three boys but this one of five... started getting red in the comb at three weeks and now red under.. Any thoughts? Now at 4 weeks...

I would say that a red comb that early would be a definite lean towards boy. But love them anyway until they crow. That way if you can adopt them out to a family looking for a rooster he will be a good one for them to have.

Thank you so much! I have been dying to know if that was a sign. I really love this chick and I will keep him. The sweetest one so far. He will sleep in my lap without calling for backup. Also the feather-i-est!

I don't think the red in the comb heralds a boy. Silkies should have black combs, it just means his color isn't to standard. From what I know of silkie sexing, even show breeders cannot accurately sex them before 4-5 mos. of age, and some not till they crow or lay.
