I would say it's behavior is hen like but it's bestie is a Americana rooster same age so how know if that's why

Can anyone sex these two 8.5 week olds? I couldn't get a frontal shot of #1 but its poof is fuller, you can't see its eyes straight on..

OK guys. I have been waiting patiently for now. My Silkies are 7.5 weeks. I have guesses on two and am not sure on the 3rd. We even colored them with food coloring so they would be easier to tell apart for you experts and those following along at home.

Pink Silkie (She's named Keeper, as we named them for Quidditch players). Obviously, I think this one is a pullet. She's pretty mellow and timid, and has actually mothered the smaller bantam frizzles we got a bit later.

Front view, flat small comb. Roundish head poof that is still filling in with lots of pin feathers.

Then there is Chaser, who I think is also a pullet. She's very very timid.

Flat, small comb, poofy crest. It is still filling in too. Lots of pin feathers.

And Seeker. This one is blue, because we are divided. This one seems more outgoing and will tussle with our buff-laced polish pullet.

Bigger comb, but still not huge. It has some bumpy texture. The crest is still coming in and the head is FULL of pin feathers and bits of baby fluff.


Front view with some light to show the comb texture. It's not as huge as my blue silkie roo was at this age, but it's not as non-existent as the others. This one was the tiniest as a chick and grew very slowly, and it has developed at an overall slower pace than the top two.

Thoughts?

The above image is the three when we got them. The squished tiny is the blue one. It's always grown more slowly.

I know this is an old thread but I would appreciate anyone's opinions. I have two silkie chicks which hatched the same day. One was bigger right from day one and I noticed it was more active and brave about going out of the coop/going after treats etc. Now they are almost three weeks old, it is still bigger and now the smaller one is growing a poof on top of its head whereas the bigger one isn't. So I've been convinced since day one that one is a girl and one is a boy because of this. Is it likely that it could be that clear from day one or is there still a good chance they could surprise me? Sorry I cant post any pics.

It seems like those would be ticks in the box of roo and pullet. But it could just be a hen being more dominate too.
