silkie sexing

Pics
I know it is still too early to get an accurate answer, but I was wondering if anybody would like to take a guess at what gender they think these chicks may be. Not the best of shots, but it was their first time outside so they really didn't want to sit still for picture time. They are Silkie/Cochin mix (Sizzles), and six weeks old as of today.

I bet this was already said, but those are some very nice sizzles. Where did you get them?

I asked this on a different thread but haven't really gotten an answer and I found this one all about silkies.

Do silkie hens have combs and wattles? If so at what age do they typically develop? I have two silkies 19 weeks old and the one has just started to get a comb and tiny little wattles. The other has a little comb but no wattles. Would you see this on hens? I have seen other pics of silkies at much younger ages with much larger combs so I was just wanting to see if the age and size of the comb could be a determination of the sex.

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe females can. They just don't get as big as the males. I wouldn't take my word for it though as I am still learning.

Bearded silkie hens should not have wattles. (Non-bearded silkie roosters AND hens get wattles.) 19 weeks is about the time when the gender can start to really show with silkie roosters. I've had some fool me and not get any comb until the 5th month and then it seems to grow huge overnight. The boys will also develop streamers from the back of their crest and neck about this time.
Each silkie is different, though. I had 2 blue silkie girls with small combs. One of them crowed (or tried to) so I thought it was a boy.........then she laid an egg within a week.

The other silkie had a much smaller comb. She also laid an egg about a month later. She also crows occasionally. They will keep you guessing, but they are so worth it. Good luck!
