I'm GUESSING pullet also. Doesn't appear to have the normal looking streamers the roos start getting early on.. now that Partridge looks very much like a roo to me though. Pretty paint either way! Good luck!

Here we go again, a few weeks later. I think they are about 10-12 weeks old now. The black and the blue both have a knob on their comb that the white doesn't have.

























Any guesses?

I'd like to see another couple of photos of her, without a wet crest and showing the size of the comb. At this stage I'm leaning towards pullet.

Hi, there!

My silkie chicks are 13 weeks old. I'm starting to get paranoid that I have all roosters and I was hoping for some help sexing them. I have some guesses of my own, but I'm new to chickens, so I doubt I'm correct. (I believe you can click on the pictures to see a larger size.)

#1 White silkie named Starbuck. She is the smallest. I purchased her from the same feed store as the others, but it was 10 days later, so she might actually be a week or so younger and not from the same batch as the others. I'm on the fence about if she is a pullet or a cockerel.


#2 Partridge named Gerty. I'm fairly certain this is a pullet. She is pretty shy.


#3 Buff named Ginger. Possibly a roo. She is the boldest one, first out into the yard and to the treats I bring them. Whether she is a rooster or an alpha hen, I don't know.


#4 Gray silkie named Little Edie. She seems like a pullet to me. She is very docile.


#5 Gray (?) silkie named Hazel. Possibly a cockerel. She used to be virtually identical to #4 but started getting the lighter streaks a couple weeks ago, so I'm not sure what color she is. She can be a bit aggressive by pecking at my fingers and she is always watching me closely. There is a better shot of her in the group photo below.


And all together now. The grays and the buff are all about the same size, with the partridge and the white a bit smaller. The buff and the white are the more social ones with me, which makes them the favorites and probably roosters, with my luck. Any help from those more experienced with silkies would be much appreciated.
