Silkie Thread! Talk about your Silkies and post pics of your Silkies

Now would be the time to start looking, but between now and 6 months is when genders should really be starting to show. Depending upon where your birds are from (show lines are always more difficult to tell), wattles and combs are the most obvious. Sometimes with some birds you can just *tell* but that usually takes alot of experience. But pictures would certainly help, especially because of the latter. Sometimes people can just tell. But it may take a fresh eye that is not used to looking at the birds.

I will take some pics tomorrow, they are from Sundown waterfowls stock.

I was hoping it was a he instead of a she. The black splash is definately a roo, he crows and has spur bumps and that comb. The "horns" are even showing on him already. The white one I was hoping was a boy because need one but the only thing that looks boyish is the comb and it's larger than the girs but smaller than the black splash and there is no sign at all of spur bumps and it doesn't crow. It doesn't squat either like the other gils are starting to do. Maybe it's both. lol

I had a cockerel lavender split but he came up missing today. I'm afraid a hawk got him. He was the only one that didn't have a fluffy top. I guess the silkies won't be getting out anymore. I don't have many to begin with and have a hard time locating what i'm looking for. I just found a roo for the partrige girl I have. All the white roos seem to be in middle or east tennessee. I may have to take a road trip one of these days just to get my girl a fella I have a frizzle that will go in with him too. I have a sizzle cockerel but I can't put the frizzle with him. Too much frizzle gene and they're related. I like to mix with different blood lines.
