Thanks!! He is a very good roo too. I have 4 roos. Two great ones to both the girls and to people. The other one, animal...he is even better with the girls but not so great with people. He will help the girls when they are ready to lay and wait patiently for them. The last one Muppet was a late bloomer so he is crazy with the girls right now. Hopefully he will calm down a bit soon.
This is Sammy. He is a great roo too. He helps Mom keep an eye on the chicks too. He is also the first one to correct Animal when he comes charging at my legs! It works because Animal does listen him.
This one here is Animal. He is awesome with the girls but such a meany to people. He even helps the girls prepare their nest before they lay. I will give him a little while to see how he does. He is better than say a month ago and I think it was because Bob & Sammy correct him when he acts up.
This is Muppet my late bloomer. I couldn't get a whole lot of pics of him yesterday because he was all over the place. He is starting to come at my legs a bit now but not nearly as bad as Animal was doing.
My beloved roo, Mushmouse, started attacking me a few years ago. So I stalked him for about 10 minutes a day. Just keep making him move and move, don't let him eat drink or jump girls. Don't back away. Just keep making him move. Mine was cured by the end of the week and then became my snuggle-silkie. He would even wait for me to pick him up and put him in the coop. I don't believe in being mean about it, just talk in rooster talk that I am the BIG ROO. I've had quite a few roos that stopped the nonsense but don't fear me. I've never failed in doing this. I just love Silkie roos.
Good advice. I did the same thing to my light brahma roo from the very beginning...and he has NEVER even looked cross=ways at me except to be wary of me..like he would another roo.

Thank you for the great info!!! I will give it a try! Now when he comes at me, I say "Animal, No" loudly and he does seem to stop.
When I say this, Bob & Sammy have learned this as well and will come to see what he is up too. I don't know if he is responding to me or knows when I say this, Sammy & Bob will be coming to peck his butt if he doesn't chill out!
I love my silkie roos too. All of them! They are so full of personality!
What age can you tell the gender of a Silkie? Are there any defining features besides combs and wattles? Mine are about 3 and half months old and all five have about the same sized wattles and combs and no streamers(From their crests). Are they still to young?
Here are some of mine. They came from CJ. She keeps an ad in the eggs for sale, lives in PA. If you get a chance, get some eggs. I have more but they wouldn't tolerate being still for a second.
This one is the most handsome in my opinion. A roo and the only male that crows. BTW, they are all 6 months old.

Now would be the time to start looking, but between now and 6 months is when genders should really be starting to show. Depending upon where your birds are from (show lines are always more difficult to tell), wattles and combs are the most obvious. Sometimes with some birds you can just *tell* but that usually takes alot of experience. But pictures would certainly help, especially because of the latter. Sometimes people can just tell. But it may take a fresh eye that is not used to looking at the birds.
