I tried dollar store hair gel on the muffs and it didn't work. I'd like that recipe too!!
Okay I found it! Use tape hold the crest up, and for the muffs, mix unflavored gelatin and some warm water, only do a small bit at a time, apply quickly, rub down in the direction you want it to lay. I would say personally I would try it first on a non-show bird and see how well and easy it will wash out with some soap and warm water BEFORE putting it on a show bird - just in case. any annoying bits go ahead and pluck like you would your eyebrows. hair tape cut to the right size strips in not too vibrant colors or no-metal pony tail holders for kids work best for the crest.
for the crest I would honestly do a handband type deal with hair tape, a bit wider in the front, slimmer on the sides and back, connect/over lap in the back, this will pull it up out of the face, the smaller strips on the sides can be closer to the eyes without too much bothering - do not do it tight at all, very loose as to not aggravate them to want to shake and scratch it off for being an annoyance.
I wanted to share pic's for my two silkes from the show today too!!! They did great and I'm soo proud of them
Here's my little Buff Pullet that won 1st and "BV"
My Little Blue Mood Boy won 1st in his class shown by a Jr.
I wanted to get more pic's of other birds to share but, had so much fun just talking and hanging out with everyone by the time I went to do it the show was over!!!

A bird or something must be getting them. Sorry.
thats what i think too!
I have heaps of wild birds flying over
You really need to keep the birds protected from predators. Maybe construct a tractor where they can be on the ground safely protected? PVC pipe or 1x2's and wire will make the sides, wood or plastic for a roof.
