Silkie thread!

some time it just hard for silkies to see the water

Yeah, mine have a harder time finding it than the others. I often offer them each a drink before bed in case they haven't found it with all their feathers in the way during the day

they are usually so thirsty!

They don't seem to have issues finding the food though. They are such pigs

I wondered about that! He does seem to miss the water, but hasn't had any issues with eating. But I wonder if he is thirsty, although I have seen him find the water on his own. I have polish, so I'm not new to crested breeds, but he just seems sooooo different from my polish! I think they see better than he does! I'm a little baffled with some of his behaviors! ha! BTW, I do have a couple of other silkies- but they are from a hatchery and barely have a crest at all, and don't have all the fluff nor act like him. Okay, well I better calm down, because I'm having two more of these being shipped to me next week! LOL I don't want to be the crazy person out there watching my birds for "signs" or oddities.

OH!! one more question, do you all ever use a hair clippie to hold back their hair so they can see?

There is no reason for silkies not to be able to see. If their crest or muff/beard is covering their eyes, it should be trimmed back until you can see their eye when they are held at your eye level. If you can see their eyes, then they can see.

We even trim our show birds. I've seen judges disqualify a hen that could not see.

We were at the Central Florida Poultry Breeder's double points show in Inverness a few weekends ago. The next one we will go to here is in Lake City in January. We also go to Georgia to a couple of shows. There is usually one in Arcadia, but I understand that it is going to be held at the State Fair in Tampa this year.
