I wish! But, I don't have an incubator. And with 5 kids of my own, I have no time to sit on them.

I can kinda help! It depends where you're getting them from and age, though. You should generally understand the silkie standard as a first. There are some birds that might just pop out at you as being showy and typey. Watch out for any DQs or faults that might cost ya. The best thing I can tell you is something my mom taught me: 'Never buy anything that you aren't 100% happy with.' If there's any doubt, leave the [it] behind.

Without other info, it's kinda hard to help...

I try to pick out the hens that are closest to the Standard. I usually take a couple to the shows because I'm new to this and some times the judge or another breeder will see things I miss. I also look for a bird with wow factor the one that your eye goes to in the pen right away. this little girl has that for me, she still has lots of developing to do

she is 3 months old

Well, I ended up helping the last one out and it seems to be doing fine. It's a partrige. And it has a vaulted skull. Can't tell about the toes just yet till it gets up on them a bit. There is one more egg left and it pipped just a little while ago. It's a mix, the hen is a white polish/silkie mix with recessive black) and the roo is a black lavender split silkie. Should be interesting.

after seeing the gorgeous SQ silkies, my mind is set for spring and some show quality pullets- this is lucy my only silkie at the moment- molting, i've never seen her with her full feathering. I got her at a poultry swap. so don't know her breeding or anything
