Silkie thread!

My Black Silkie Hen seems to be sick. Can you Silkie lovers please help me. She has been standing sleeping around when free ranging. My other breed bantam rooster, has also started on her, and I feel bad for her. Her right nostril, has been running. PLEASE, I have seen a chicken of mine before have a runny nose, but sound of a gargle as well, and it ended up dying. But I do not here her, like she has a cold. But still, is there anything I can do?

Start her on antibodies asap. You can find derramycin in yur feed store mix it and put in her drinking water for 10 days. I always add sugar or honey to there meds it helps it go down easier. I always put them in a place where there going to stay warm w there own food & water.

Is she eating?

Also do a search on sick silkies here on BYC you'll get tons of great info. Others on here will also give u great info too.

Actually, Duramycin is going to be entirely ineffective unless you switch them off feed that has calcium in it. (you need feed with NO calcium) Duramycin binds to calcium in the body --what little drug is left over to fight off infection in the body is going to be insignificant. You need to use a tetracycline product like doxycycline or oxytetracycline. Can you take her to your vet? I just took my birds to the vet early this week and he gave me Baytril to inject. They are all feeling much better now. They had sneezing and head shaking. BTW- if you use Tylan, don't use anything but Tylan 50-- it's too strong otherwise and it still is degenerative in breast muscle. If you do injections, be sure you are doing it well below the crop and into the breast muscle.

These silkie/santa pictures are soooo darned cute!! What an adorable idea! Beautiful birds, too! Mine love coming inside too! I'll bring in my roo- and he will snuggle down in my lap and let me pet him forever while we watch tv. The others are sweet too, but he's my favorite.
