Silkie thread!

Silkie color question...this one is a blue partridge I am assuming? I am asking because it is one I will likely be parting with and need to know what to tell folks.
He/she hatched out like a partridge...
Thanks all...I am learning soooo much. Didn't realize I had so much room left in the old brain;-)

Sorry for the tiny pic, he is the one on the top left (below)

Super nice chick! I would guess blue partridge but it's really a guess.

Really? Lol. Thanks. I guess they must really change as they mature. Right now, if I hadn't seen him as a hatchling, I would not think partridge. Shows what I know...;-)
I am much more enamored with the whites...but have eggs coming in partridge and lav as well as white. Can't wait for my second silkie hatch!

I'd say he looks like a henny feathered blue partridge (see all the penciling, like on a female?). Love those pantaloons!

This is Gage, a henny feathered blue partridge cock.

Good looking boy you have there...he looks likes little Yeti with those fluffy pants..

Yay...I am now a member of the silkie club ...yay...and I put in chickens for the random answer again (one last try) and for some reason it worked this time...just another website for me to obsessively read through...as if BYC wasn't enough...I might have to give up work for this past time...

I have 18 silkie eggs going into lockdown on Tuesday...white, paint, splash, buff, porcaline, lavender and partridge...no blacks this time!

Please keep us updated on Bonk!

Gorgeous!!

Dwegg, we need to join, too! I haven't done that yet, though I've been to the site a few times to look it over. Just get distracted or whatever. Since we're just stating out, this would be a great thing for us to do!

Our 4-H portfolio reviews for the last year were at the last meeting-- since this is our first year, I got a chance to look over books the other kids had made and see which ones were great and which were so/so. It turns out doing our own projects on our own are just as important as joining in on the group events. We're learning on this lack of fertility thing with our eggs. I'm documenting it so we can see what it takes to get things "working" to get a successful hatch so we can add it to our book.

Question about my cockerel-- this morning (now that he's all cleaned up), I saw him grabbing the girls, but he didn't jump on top of them. He was just next to them. Uhhh?? He WILL eventually learn what to do... right???? I know he's still young, but....?? Does anyone else have these problems? I'm not kidding when I say I have the WORST luck ever. Sigh. :(

My cockerel did the same thing. He would grab them on the neck and then acted like he didn't know which end was which (he was 8 months!) Then when he finally got it right, still no fertile eggs.

So I trimmed around him vent even more and a couple of days later, success!!! Did you watch the video someone posted on AI?

Mine is 8 months too-- probably closer to being 9 months. Anyway, I'm surprised he's not understanding his job entirely by now!

It's been a couple of days since his bath and last night I checked his rear again and everything was pretty clean, but he did have a bit of poop stuck in his feathers again. Since it wasn't much at all, I just yanked it out and took out a couple of feathers with it. You really can't tell. Hoping he'll move to the head of the class soon on his duties and his rear will stay clean. I just sort of feel like I'm the only one having issues and everyone else's birds have no troubles. OH-- I DID watch that AI video.... heh. Yeah, I suppose I can do that last resort. I'm going to hope that all of this works first. But it did look easy enough to do. Sigh.

I may take your last advice and try trimming back a bit more.
