SO excited!! I just joined the American Silkie Bantam Club! Woo HOO!!!
They are very pretty but look like only PQ. Looks like they may be Hatchery stock but still they are very pretty silkies!
hawkeye i totally agree mine have small cresti cant find ones that have big crest
but in my mind thats really the only thing wrong with the hen but the pullet has a small crest to my cockerel is the best ive found it has a very nice comb and beard but crest lacks but hes young so could grow in his feet are preety good to and has a nice cusion has no hard feathers and has a short back in my mind the wings arent very good on him
I'm so sorry, I retracted it because I thought they were non-bearded! I thought their wings were nice! And their combs are very nice, too! They are the right shape and color and not too big. I have a nice cockerel, but his comb is on the large side. I'm just going to hope his offspring might be offset by the hen. So if it's what you have to work with, then that's what you have to work with! I'd be really particular about culling hard on your offspring and work on the larger crests. I bet you can get there! Yeah, his back is short, so you're okay there.
ETA: I think the small crests really threw me off into thinking non-bearded. Again, I should have looked closer and I apologize.![]()
Kinda funny...Okay, I laughed hysterically...
I just picked up my very first "non-silkie/SG" chicks that will be my future layers. One is an older Barred Rock so she was separated from the teeny chicks when I first got them home. I felt sorry for the little gal, so took the chance of putting her in with my Silkie babies that are also about 6 weeks old. It was hilarious! All of the Silkies came rushing over to stare at her feet! They would lightly peck her little toes and cluck amongst themselves about this funny looking stranger. They are all getting along great now - she even joins in the Silkie pile-up at night rather than roosting by herself...I hope that I'm not warping her in any way... or them, for that matter![]()
that is too funny (and VERY cute!!)

You guys have to remember Sager is in CANADA - they do NOT have the same standards up there, nor a lot of the same blood in Canadian silkies - American Silkies are MUCH different than European Silkies, and Canada I think the silkies tend to look more along the lines of European with more Canadian breeders TRYING to breed to American Standards...
Sager, its hard for us in the US who are used to the American standards to critique your birds. Have you tried searching for fellow breeders up in Canada to get a critique from? They are who you need to get the opinion of for a TRUE assessment for the quality of your birds. Compared to American showbirds your birds would be classified from PQ - BQ none meet the American Silkie Bantam Standard of Perfection - but again I know Canadian birds aren't quite supposed to.I'm sorry we can't be of more help hun

Ya i know ur guys birds are so much better i always get so jealous when i see them I've been looking so hard for silkies as good as ur guys but they are slim to none and when u do find some they are imported from the states. I'm sure one day i will see some more up to par with ur guys birds once i start goin to more and more shows but thank you every one
