Silkie thread!

After putting a Silkie egg under a hen last month from my new pullet, I was really bummed when the egg went missing.
So I did something I didn't plan to do! I've put some Silkie eggs under a couple different non-silkie hens, hoping to get some babies!
I want to raise them for the fun of it. It's Spring, and all the chicks I see on here everyday have really got me wanting some more!
If they hatch this time, I want to raise them for a few months to enjoy them, and hopefully, keep one pullet out the bunch.

The others I'll just try to rehome locally as pets. I already have one lady wanting two for her grandkids.
ANYWAY, what I'm trying to get to..... *drum roll* ...I'm expecting some to hatch today!

I'm so excited, and I'm really hoping they hatch this time! I haven't candled them or anything. Just letting the hen do her job.

for you!! Let us know how it goes!!

Oh that's great!!! I hope they hatch for you! My broody is sitting on one good egg right now. I'm hoping next week I have a chick! Take pics if they hatch! What do you think happened to the other egg? That is odd it just disappeared? Could a snake have gotten in there? When I was a kid, that was always a problem for us-- the snakes would get in and eat several eggs at a time! Now I hope with my raised coop, it will be harder to access than what my dad had set up.

Thanks. Good luck with your egg!
I'm actually not sure. She had several eggs under her, and all were there and hatched but my Silkie egg... I think it might be my fault! Because I had drew a "S" on it... I didn't think it would be a problem until I seen the hen, sitting on these eggs, attack a Silkie egg marked with a "S"! I think she thought it was a worm? Or an imposter!

Where do you look for egg, chicks, & full-grown silkies near you? Is there an easy way to find a breeder nearby without searching through the buy/sell/trade? We just ordered eggs from halfway across the country and I'm looking for a full-grown nearby for a friend but it seems to take forever pouring over threads and sites to find what I need! Any suggestions?

Thanks for your long-sufferingness toward us newbies!

I found these people on the Silkie Bantam Club. I don't know if they are near you but if not they might be able to direct you to someone who is. I forgot to mention that they are in Missouri

Thank you! And yes, it's soo hard! Hopefully, this one will be the only time this year (besides what's already under hens)! I won't hold my breath though.

I'm actually hoping for an odd ball colored pullet to add to my little flock of Silkies. Hope I get something interesting with my "Porcelain" girl and Splash boy.

Believe it or not, I emailed them earlier today to find out! So there's really no simple way I guess, you just network enough eventually to find people near you!
