Silkie thread!

Thanks! And to all who are interested, this chick is doing just fine!

Oh GOOD! I stopped and said a prayer for her this afternoon...I was watching my own precious buff baby, Navidad, that was hatched with a neurological issue. I thank God every day for that fuzzy little butt and that after 4 months he is doing perfectly well except for some head rocking. I'm so glad that your little one is progressing so well!

I plan on going to my first poultry show here in a couple of weeks, just to watch and learn.
Do people sell their birds at the shows? I have no idea what to expect.

I'm wondering if I should go with a box or two if I find something to bring home..that's if that's even possible? :D

I would! On one of my other threads, they come home with chickens all the time. One brought home silkies and a silver laced wyandotte today!

I got silkies this year! They're 7 weeks, and 6 weeks old.

2 splash, 1 grey, and 1 black-appropriately named blackie! They're all bantams.

Hi Sanna, if the show is the 22nd, yes (off the record) there will be a sales area.
The state tester is giving the committee a hard time about selling birds there, so alot of peeps will be selling tailgate, out of their cars.
And I know there will be Silkies there.
Hope to meet you there, Roberta

We are new to chicken raising and have fallen in love. We have a nice mix of various breeds including, RIR, Barred Rock, Orpington, Wyandotte, Americauna, Maran, and now 15 silkies. Here's the latest additions to our flock. I'm unsure of colors but I know we have some partridge and blues in there.

Looks like almost all are blue and partridge. first two pictures are Blues, 3rd picture of the 2 chicks they are partridge. In the 'group' picture I see a lot of varying shades of blue - gotta love blue and partridge they come in some lovely varying shades.

Thank you so much for the insight! I can't wait to watch them grow into beautiful chickens. Some of them have a really puffy head like beeker from the muppets while others do not. What does that say about they're mature look?

Okay I need some advice please...I have nine chicks from one breeder, four from another, and a bunch of colored
cable ties. I have marked the birds with marker (ie red head, red butt, black neck, etc) and THEN the husband comes home with
the cable ties. I would like to try to use them to keep birds straight but how? I will say I am no good with organization! Different colors for
different breeders would be two colors and would not help me know who is who in one breeder's birds. Different color on each bird is not an option
as there aren't enough colors. I even tried sanding the tie and using a permanent marker so I could write RB for red butt, etc. But they are too small
to write on really....am I making this more difficult than necessary? Should I just say screw it and get actual leg bands? Any ideas?
Thanks!

Happy Easter all!

Does anyone have any pics of a Splash Partridge? A chick pic and an adult/juvie pic would also help. I hatched two yesterday that I suspect are this color. One came from a Splash egg for sure (because I watched her lay it!), and while it hatched with some Partridge makings, it is also very silvery and blue colored as well. The other one looks pretty much like the first. I will try to get pics today, although I've been having problems with posts and pics here lately; this is the first morning I've been able to post since Friday! Thanks!
