Silkie thread!

I paid about that (a bit more) for mine. That is a REALLY good deal... I'd be wanting to make sure they are show quality. Have her send you a picture of their wings, feet and over all look.

ETA--- WAIT-- do you mean $50 for the PAIR? Or for each bird? I paid $50 for each bird... that didn't include shipping. I was pretty happy with my deal. :)

(btw-- I got such a good deal because it was the end of the season--start of Fall and she had a LOT of young birds to get rid of) Might want to look for deals like that, too.

I agree. I paid about $50 per bird and feel I got one heck of a deal. Have you looked on poultry bid? Some of those birds are REALLY pricey. But there have been some awesome ones listed lately.

I have a little silkie chick that is 5 days old. I am trying to determine if it will be a buff. I keep taking pics of it, but they all turn out making the chick look white. I only have the camera on my phone, and the color quality is not good enough to get the true color of this chick, so my question is ...... do all chicks that start out yellowy turn into white chickens? The chick is a yellowy beige, not really straight yellow.
I have 4 leghorns that started out yellow, now as their feathers are coming in, they are white.
Is it the same for silkies?
I was hoping this would be a buff (reason I bought it), as I already have a white, but that chick was a little older when i got it, and no yellow at all.

Silkie chicks start out a pale yellow, white, or smokey colored. all depends on the genetics behind the white.

Buff typically hatch out a dark yellow or a burnished color. if its 5 days old within another few days you'll see the wing feathers coming in and you will know if its coming in white or buff. :)

all the silkies i hatched that are white now were yellow. after a few weeks the yellow down fell out and the white popped up

The one Buff Silkie I hatched was yellow, but had a tinge or an orange color to it on the head and wing area. The White Silkies were all solid, bright yellow. The color difference in the down was obvious to me at day 2.

Thank-you to all who gave their 2 cents. I appreciate it. I'm really just looking for a good broody for myself and something that my daughter can show if she wants to. But, I'm not one for doing things half hiney, so if I'm gonna have the birds anyway why not have good quality birds...right? Then later if I decide to start breeding them, I have birds worth breeding.

Hahaha!! Who are you kidding?? You KNOW you'll have a Silkie flock by the end of the year! That was my initial quest too, I just wanted a broody. Now, 20 birds later and counting...

Ok, Thanks for that! I will love it no matter what color it is, just would like to have
one of every color.
